Playing wet with the Samsung Galaxy A73 5G

The Samsung Galaxy A73 5G is the latest A series phone from Samsung. This phone has a four-camera configuration and IP67 certification, making it suitable for shooting outdoor areas without fear of being exposed to water.

In mid -April 2022, Samsung inaugurate cell phone Galaxy A73 5G to the Indonesian market. One of the advantages highlighted by this phone is its resistance to water and dust with an IP67 certification. Besides, side photography this phone carries a four-camera configuration with the main camera carrying a resolution of 108 MP.

In addition to the 108 MP high-resolution camera, there is also a 12 MP ultra-wide camera, a 5 MP macro camera, and a camera depth sensor for bokeh needs 5 MP resolution. With the ability of a great camera and assisted by a waterproof body, it allows us to take pictures using this phone in almost all outdoor conditions without having to fear being damaged by water ingress.

I happened to have the opportunity to use this phone to access the camera while traveling to a waterfall and river. At the beginning of the trip to the waterfall using a pickup, I took the time to record using the video feature on the Galaxy A73 5G. Thanks to the OIS feature it has, the video recording looks smooth even though the car I was traveling on passed through bumpy and uphill roads.

The following is a video that I recorded on my way to the waterfall while riding in a car:

The trip to the waterfall displays very beautiful views of the hills and rivers, of course it’s a shame if I don’t capture it. Photographing a scene like this is perfect for using the 108 MP high resolution mode on the Galaxy A73 5G. Shooting at this resolution, of course, takes up a lot of memory, but I don’t find it bothersome shutter lag during the process of saving images on the phone’s internal memory.

Shooting such a wide landscape is perfect for using the panorama mode. Fortunately, the Samsung Galaxy A73 5G is one of the phones that carries this mode. How to use it is very easy, just press the ‘More’ tab at the bottom of the screen and then select ‘Panorama’. During shooting using this mode, the phone is very adept at linking image-by-picture even if I slide the phone in a rather quick motion. There’s a lot of complexity to the images that feature hills and trees, all of which can be spliced together accurately. Coupled with the ultra-wide lens, the panorama mode looks even wider.

One of the four cameras on the Samsung Galaxy A73 5G carries a lens depth sensors. This is useful for simulating background bokeh like shooting using a large aperture. This shooting method can be used in Portrait mode. We can change the intensity of the background blur using the slider at the bottom of the screen. The intensity of the bokeh effect is highest at the level 7 slider. The results of the Portrait mode produce a pretty good bokeh simulation. This camera can intelligently distinguish between the main subject and the background precisely. In addition, the front camera of the Galaxy A73 5G also allows us to take pictures with a bokeh background. The intensity of the bokeh effect can also be adjusted even though the photo has been taken.

When shooting outdoors there are times when we want to photograph a subject with a good scenic background. However, what about when the background is in the sun? Of course this requires us to use the High Dynamic Range (HDR) mode. By default, the HDR mode on the Galaxy A73 5G is in automatic settings. This means that this phone will activate HDR when it detects the user is photographing a subject with their back to the light. The results given in the mode look pretty good with the subject and background both clearly visible.

The IP67 certification on the Samsung Galaxy A73 5G makes me confident to shoot waterfalls from a close enough distance. With this certification, Samsung claims that this phone is water resistant to a depth of 1 meter for 30 minutes.

The movement of a flowing waterfall became more dramatic when I recorded in slow motion mode. There are two options for this mode, namely Slow-Motion and Super Slow-Mo. Here is the result of the video I took using slow motion mode:

There’s something lacking if I don’t record videos underwater using the Samsung Galaxy A73 5G. And here is a video when the phone is submerged in water:

During shooting and recording videos, the Galaxy A73 screen is quite helpful in taking pictures under the blazing sun. The reason is, there are no reflections that are too distracting when I do the composition. The screen itself uses a 6.7-inch Super AMOLED panel.
