The playgrounds at Lake Phoenix are modern and well equipped. But things are different in the “old” Hörde. The SPD is committed to improvement. Possibilities and costs are examined.
In Dortmund-Hörde there is a playground in the midst of dense residential development that meets all the requirements to be a green and shady oasis for children and adults. But all too often the place remains silent and unused.
It lies between the largely ungreened multi-storey rows of houses under large, old trees on Piepenstockstrasse. However, the condition and equipment of the square could be better, says the SPD faction in the district council (BV) Hörde.
In the middle of the large, sand-filled area is a beautiful and almost new-looking steel and wood playground equipment. Small children can use it to shovel sand, load it and slide it down a tube.
However, classic equipment such as seesaw, swing and slide is missing, and the playground has little to offer for older children – no climbing frame, no table tennis table, no dexterity equipment. There is also a lack of seating.
Kicking against the wall disturbs the neighbors
Apparently, the free area next to the sand playground is often used for table football. On the wall next to it is written in large letters that it should not be misused as a goal wall.
SPD parliamentary group spokesman Werner Sauerländer finds it a pity that the potential is not being used there: “Due to its location and the old trees, the actually spacious area is ideal as a meeting place for children and parents from the neighborhood – especially in summer.”
To do this, however, the attractiveness would have to be improved by additional play equipment and benches. In order to avoid playing football against the wall of the house on the right-hand side of the square, two goals could also be set up, according to the SPD.
The members of the BV-Hörde followed these arguments and decided unanimously to commission an examination from the responsible specialist administration. Once the list of costs for the desired measures is available, the next steps should be discussed.
Then the dreamy playground on Piepenstockstraße could become a real gem and magnet for parents with children.
