Playground for billionaires in Manhattan

A quarter of economic superlatives has emerged on the last fallow area on the island. But criticism for the project rained early on – and even after the opening it did not die down. In doing so, it goes wrong, because it fails to recognize that good old Manhattanism is being built here.

Private builders pride themselves on supporting the common good. What is the result? In the center of Manhattan there is now an area that is reminiscent of a gated community. The Hudson Yards, which are celebrated in all media with monumental images, are the most expensive and largest private housing estate in the USA at 25 billion dollars.
