Some players of Assassin’s Creed Odyssey were surprised this week when they opened the map in the game and were treated to an advertising pop-up lasting a few seconds. This involved advertising for other Assassin’s Creed games, such as Assassin’s Creed Mirage.
According to Ubisoft, the advertisements were not intended to be shown. It would therefore be a “technical error” that was corrected as soon as the problem was notified.
The incident naturally raises questions about why Ubisoft makes it possible for an advertisement to be shown there in the first place. Some suspect that it may have been an experiment and that of course does not give much hope for the future.
It appears that Ubisoft is experimenting with in-game advertising for some users (Xbox and PS).
You are in the middle of your game, go to pause or Map and you have 3sec. an ad for another game appears. Enough to uninstall? 😅 pic.twitter.com/m5S4rEXas5
