Players report Steam ban in China | DRAFT5

Players from China revealed, this Saturday (25), that Steam, one of the main libraries of virtual games in the world, was banned in the country. According to a series of posts made on social networks, they are banned from using the global version of the platform indefinitely.

In publications, they gave details where they stated that when opening Steam accounts or the platform’s official website, they are unable to access the account. The same goes for all other features on the platform, including the community pages.

Steam’s ban on China took players by surprise as, in February 2021, the Chinese version of the platform was officially launched in the country. Since launch, the list of games is much less, making only selected and government approved games available.

Even with the platform ban, however, players of Dota 2 and Counter-Strike: Global Offensive were not affected. That’s because the Chinese version also counts both games, allowing players to continue accessing the developer’s two titles.
