It’s Gotham Knights launch week, and not everything revealed about the game prior to its release has been welcomed with open arms. Confirmation that the console versions of the game would be locked at 30fps led many to say they would be canceling their pre-orders.
WB Montreal confirmed last week that Gotham Knights players will not be able to sacrifice resolution to improve frame rates. While some people don’t care, others say they don’t want to play anymore. Either because they don’t believe the game will be as visually pleasing as they hoped, or because WB Montreal waited a week to release this information.
“I just canceled my Gotham Knights Xbox pre-order. I can’t accept the fact that the game will run at 30fps in 2022.” he wrote MarianTheMad on Twitter, with proof of pre-order cancellation and $ 69.99 refund.
Social networks spent the weekend trying to figure out exactly why WB Montreal limited the console version of the game to 30 frames per second. The error appears to be partly due to the good game performance of the S Series. One of the developers called the console a “potato”. Given that other games on all three consoles of the current generation offer a performance mode, many are unhappy that this is exactly what is offered as an excuse.
It remains to be seen whether enough people have been asked to refund the pre-order to influence Gotham Knights’ first week sales. It may never be clear how many people have given up on buying a game because of the 30fps message, because writing about it and doing it are two different things. However, it wasn’t all bad news for Gotham Knights over the weekend, with WB Montreal revealing that a four-player co-op mode called Heroic Assault will arrive in the game on November 29th.
