However, Barcelona are reluctant to let Messi go for free. The Blaugrana are adamant that Messi is still under a contract with a buy-out clause worth 700 million euros.
Not long ago, Messi changed his mind by deciding to stay at Barcelona. The 33-year-old will not leave Camp Nou until next season.
Messi chose to stay because he didn’t want this problem to end on the court table. Messi did not have the heart to sue the club he has defended for nearly 20 years.
However, Messi expressed his disappointment with Barcelona President Josep Maria Bartomeu. La Pulga sees Bartomeu’s leadership as a disaster. Messi also said Barcelona did not have a clear winning project.
Enrique regretted the situation facing Messi and Barcelona. However, the Spanish national team coach believes Barcelona and Messi will be fine if they do part ways.
“This is a very difficult topic, I don’t know if I should talk about this,” Luis Enrique said as quoted Sport.
“I think clubs are bigger than individuals. Barcelona is one of the biggest clubs in the world and has won many titles.”
“Obviously they have an extraordinary relationship. Leo has made Barca grow rapidly thanks to his extraordinary performance. I still want an agreement,” continued Enrique.
“Sooner or later, Messi will stop playing for Barca. It would be great if he separated well. It would be a shame, the day he leaves, we will no longer see extraordinary players, but the club will still be champions without Messi, just like Messi. “he would still be a great player for many years if he left,” he said.
