Play-off semi-finals are coming up for Emhusen Windmills

Table of contents

It’s not an everyday game that’s coming up for the Emhusen Windmills this weekend. The American football team from Emtinghausen can dream of reaching the play-off final in its first season after being founded. To do this, however, the Delmenhorst Bulldgos have to be defeated on Sunday from 3 p.m. Both teams know each other as they have already played against each other twice in the second season of the North Regional League. Now the third comparison is taking place in Delmestadt, which is about making it to the final.

What is the mood like at the Windmills?

The anticipation at the Emhusen Windmills is great. The game has been highlighted on social media for some time. Head coach Will Arant describes the fact that the Windmills are in the play-off semi-finals in their first season as “almost bizarre”. While most teams have already completed the season, the Windmills are allowed on the field at least one more time. “We feel lucky that we can continue playing. It’s great that we can experience it again,” says Will Arant, making it clear how great the anticipation is for the game against the Bulldogs.

How did the footballers qualify for the semi-finals?

The Windmills qualified for the play-offs this season as second in the second season of the Landesliga Nord. Will Arant’s team was the best runner-up of all three state league seasons. The Windmills won five of six games. The footballers from Emtinghausen only had to admit defeat to the Delmenhorst Bulldogs at the start of the season and their first ever league game.

Only victories followed. The Aurich East Frisian Ducks were defeated twice. The Windmills won the home game 30:14 and away they won 32:12. In front of their own audience, they also achieved a clear 41-0 win against the Cuxhaven Northstars, which was later converted into a 36-0 win as Cuxhaven withdrew their team. The second match was therefore not played at all, so the game was again scored 36-0 for the Windmills. Arant’s team surprisingly won the second comparison with the Delmenhorst Bulldogs.

How did the first two comparisons with the Bulldogs go?

There were two very different games that the Emhusen Windmills played against the Delmenhorst Bulldogs. In the first comparison, the experienced team prevailed with the Bulldogs. The team from Delmestadt won 38:6 in Emtinghausen. For the Windmills it was the first league game in their club history. Nevertheless, the first touchdown was achieved straight away.

In the second duel, the Windmills showed that they had learned something new. They stood up to the Bulldogs and didn’t let a 21-point deficit throw them off course. The Windmills turned around 7:28 and won 39:35. It was undoubtedly a surprise victory for Will Arant’s team. At the same time, it is the first and only defeat of the season that the Delmenhorst Bulldogs suffered.

What does Will Arant say about his upcoming opponent?

Will Arant has a high opinion of the Delmenhorst Bulldogs. “They’re really experienced. They had extra games,” the Windmills coach said, referring to the Bulldogs’ two interconference games. “They are ready to play. We expect them to come with great enthusiasm.” Arant also emphasizes that both teams will treat each other with respect. “Both have strengths and weaknesses. The team that carries out the plan best wins,” the coach’s calculation is simple.

But the Windmills can go into the duel with a broad chest. “We are confident no matter who we play against,” says Arant, who focuses on his own team. “We play our football. We are a community.” Viewers can therefore look forward to a game in which there is no clear favorite.

How do the Bulldogs rate the Windmills?

Bulldogs head coach Tyrus Morgan knows how difficult it is to rebuild a team. “First of all, I would like to congratulate the Windmills on reaching the play-offs. The fact that they have already achieved this in their first season is impressive,” praises Morgan. He expects a “tough but fair” game from both sides. “It’s the play-offs and both teams are ready,” says Morgan. He still has the defeat at home against the Windmills in mind. “It still hurts, but it was a wake-up call at the right time. We have learned not to underestimate any opponent,” said Morgan, pointing out that his team felt too confident after taking the lead.

Who would be the opponent for the title if they made it to the final?

Should the Emhusen Windmills make it to the final, the Flensburg Sealords would be their opponent. The team from Schleswig Holstein prevailed in the first semi-final against the Hannover Grizzlies II with 20:7. The Flensburg Sealords had already had a strong season. With seven wins and only one defeat, the team took the lead in the first season of the North Regional League. The final is scheduled to take place on October 19th or 20th.
