Barcelona came out victorious at the Barceloni Derbi. Against Espanyol, Quique Setien’s team won 1-0.
At Camp Nou, Thursday (07/09/2020) early morning hrs, the Barcelona vs Espanyol match was quite hot. Both teams must complete the fight with 10 men, after Ansu Fati and Pol Lozano were sent off at the start of the second half.
But Barcelona was finally able to win three points. Luis Suarez became a hero through his goal in the 56th minute.
These results have not made Barcelona move from second place standings. But with 76 points from 35 matches, they stick tight to Real Madrid with a difference of one point. Madrid itself still keeps one match.
As for Espanyol, this result makes them certain to be relegated to the Segunda Division next season. They are in the caretaker position with 24 points from 35 matches, and it is impossible to get out of the red zone with the remaining 3 matches.
The game
Espanyol threatened first in the 10th minute. Through a counterattack, Adrian Embarba fired in the penalty box, but was thwarted by the Barcelona keeper, Marc-Andre ter Stegen.
New Barcelona had a chance in the 22nd minute through Lionel Messi’s free kick. Unfortunately, his shot was still rising above the goal.

The next Barca opportunity came four minutes later through Gerard Pique. But his close-range header also widened.
Espanyol almost closed the first half with an advantage, but did not materialize after Didac Vila’s shot in the 44th minute hit the post. A goalless draw scores last until the break.

Almost! Messi almost doubled the lead in the 69th minute, but his first-time shot was countered by Espanyol goalkeeper Diego Lopez.
Espanyol tried to retaliate, but failed. The 77th minute, Raul de Tomas’s header goes wide. Nine minutes later, it was Sergi Darder’s long-shot turn.
The 89th minute, De Tomas again got a chance, but his shot could be pushed over Ter Stegen. Score 1-0 in Barcelona vs Espanyol last until the end.
