Platense beat Independiente Rivadavia 2-0 in a key match and sank it in the average table

Platense beat Independiente Rivadavia 2-0 at the Bautista Gargantini Stadium at the start of the 12th round of the Professional League, settling into the table and putting pressure on the fight to enter the international cups, while its opponent reached 15 losses in 26 games of the year.

El Calamar overwhelmed their rival in the first few minutes in Mendoza and, in just eight minutes, had two very clear chances with a free kick by Sasha Marcich that hit the crossbar, bounced off the goalkeeper, hit the post again and a defender cleared the ball off the line. The visitors quickly took revenge to score the 1-0 thanks to Mateo Pellegrino.

The opening excitement of the match in the first quarter of an hour pushed the Lepra from Mendoza to leave their area and propose in the opponent’s field, but only came from deflected shots by Tobías Ostchega and Lautaro Ríos. In between, Pellegrino had his chance to widen the gap without success.

The chances continued to flow in the second half, which was marked by the teams’ ineffectiveness in goal. In particular, Guido Mainero missed two very clear chances inside the area, something that Fernando Romero responded to with a header that crashed into the crossbar and Ostchega followed with a poor header. Everything was resolved when Ronaldo Martínez made it 2-0 in his first intervention coming off the bench.

So far, Independiente Rivadavia’s performance has not been the best. In its three previous matches, it had not managed to add the expected points with two defeats against Atlético Tucumán and Talleres de Córdoba, plus a draw against Boca in the last minute. The loss against Platense keeps it in the relegation zone in the averages.

On the other hand, Vicente López’s team is moving away from the red zone and is very excited because it is in 16th position in the accumulated table with 33 points, 6 behind Lanús, the last team classified for the 2025 Copa Sudamericana. Next Sunday, September 1, they will receive San Lorenzo, while those from Cuyo will visit Vélez in Liniers the day before.
