Plastics Recycling LATAM 2024 will present new advances and trends in plastics recycling

The plastics recycling industry is growing exponentially, in line with the growing goals and commitments of companies in terms of sustainability. Added to this is the need in the world to move towards a circular economy model, through which waste materials are used to manufacture new products.

In this sense, a fundamental space to learn about current trends and establish synergies for the Latin American market will be precisely the third congress of Plastics Recycling Latam 2024, which will take place on September 10 and 11 at the World Trade Center in Mexico City.

The event, which is organized by the Gardner Business Media group, publisher of the Plastics Technology magazine, with the participation of ECOCE AC (Ecology and Business Commitment), already plays a crucial role in the development of the industry in Latin America.

In Latin America, 3.6 million tons of plastics are already recycled annually, according to the consulting firm specialized in the subject, Grupo Maxiquim,” said Natalia Ortega, director of the Plastics Recycling LATAM conference program, and added: “In the case of PET alone, Mexico is already positioned as a leading country in its recovery and recycling by recovering 63% of what is placed on the national market, and Brazil has also had significant growth by placing itself in second place, with 56%.”

In Mexico, this yearmarked by the entry of a new presidential administration, the renewal of the Congress of the Union, as well as the growing tendency to regulate the circular economy in the federal entities, are added to the negotiations on the International Treaty against plastic pollution, creating a complex and interesting scenario for the recycling industry and its value chain,” he commented. Mayra Hernández, Director of Government and Regulatory Affairs at ECOCE AC

In this context, the question arises: What is the current scenario and what positions and visions for plastic recycling are expected for the next presidential and political change in Mexico? To answer this, the event will analyze the initiatives that have permeated the regulatory framework on the circular economy in Mexico and the trends and positions discussed internationally. This analysis will allow us to identify the main challenges that the industry will face and the achievements that must be promoted, providing a clear vision of the future of plastic recycling in Mexico,” added Mayra Hernández.

The plastic recycling industry is booming, and we want to move towards a complete circular economy for plastics. Recycling plays a fundamental role in the circularity of materials,” explains Natalia Ortega.

This year, Plastics Recycling LATAM will feature the presence of Steve Alexander, director of the North American Association of Plastics Recyclers (APR), who will present the panorama, regulations and requirements of the recycling topic in the United States.

Girolamo Dagostino, director of sustainability at the Italian Association of Plastics and Rubber Machinery (AMAPLAS), will also be presenting the entire legislative panorama of the European market, especially in terms of recycling, a sector that has grown significantly in the Old Continent.

“To achieve a significant impact, it is vital that all sectors of the value chain are connected and collaborate. This event is an opportunity to strengthen those connections and advance our sustainability commitments,” Ortega concluded.

Plastics Recycling LATAM is aimed at the entire value chain related to plastics recycling and the use of recycled materials. This includes brand owners, manufacturers and other important players in the industry. Collaboration along the entire value chain is essential for the success of recycling and circular economy projects.
