In Ukraine, on the first day of February, they began to operate new retail prices for plastic bags.
Changes are foreseen decision Cabinet of December 20 last year.
Officials assure that the establishment of minimum prices will limit the circulation of plastic bags and improve the environmental situation in the country.
From February 1, the minimum retail prices for bags with walls more than 50 micrometers thick intended for packaging and transportation of goods and products at retail, catering and service points are:
- UAH 2.00 – bag without handles and side folds;
- UAH 2.50 – a bag without handles, but with side folds or with handles without side folds;
- UAH 3.00 – bag with handles and side folds.
The above requirements do not apply to biodegradable and ultra-thin plastic bags intended for packaging and transportation of fresh fish, meat, bulk products, ice and used as primary packaging until January 1, 2023.

In addition, from March 10 this year, the distribution of ultra-thin (with walls less than 15 micrometers), thin (with walls from 15 to 50 micrometers) and oxo-degradable plastic bags will be prohibited in stores and catering establishments.
Prohibition of plastic bags in Ukraine – details
- On June 1, 2021, the Verkhovna Rada adopted in the second reading and in general plastic bag bill on the territory of Ukraine, which are invited to introduce mechanisms to stimulate the development of the production of biodegradable plastic bags, as well as to introduce liability for violation of requirements in the field of distribution of bags.
- For illegal distribution of plastic bags for business entities introduced a significant administrative fine – from 8.5 to 17 thousand hryvnias, and in case of a repeated offense the penalty will reach 34 thousand hryvnias.
- December 10, 2021 in Ukraine started first phase of the ban free distribution of plastic bags.
