Plasma donors increase by 7% in Castilla y León

October is the month chosen to commemorate the International Week of Awareness on the importance of Plasma Donation, to convey to the population the importance of having this blood product available to improve the conditions of patients who need it.

In 2018, the Hemotherapy and Hemodonation Center of Castilla y León launched a specific program to obtain blood plasma and retain its donors in all provinces, resulting in a gradual increase in donations.

The Community has become the one that allocates more plasma to the industrial subdivision per 1,000 inhabitants, registering in 2022, in September, an increase of 7% compared to the previous year.

Two ways to donate

They can donate people in good health, aged between 18 and 65 years, weighing more than 50 kg and preferably of groups AB +, AB-, B + and B-.

It can be done in two ways: through a conventional blood donation, which is fractionated to obtain red blood cells, platelets and plasma, or through apheresis, through a specialized machine. The latter technique is safer and simpler.
