Plaque in memory of the victim of the foibe defaced in R.Calabria

(ANSA) – REGGIO CALABRIA, 05 OCT – A commemorative plaque dedicated to Norma Cossetto, an Istrian student killed in the foibe, was defaced by unknown persons in Reggio Calabria. This was announced by the 10 February Committee. “Faced with yet another vilification towards the martyrs of the foibe, in the total silence of the institutions conniving for questions of partisanship – it is written in a note – we express a sincere contempt that goes beyond tepid indignation. The commemorative plaque dedicated to Norma Cossetto, Istrian student massacred by Tito’s partisans, had been moved from the Griso-Laboccetta area to a small corner between a staircase and a wall: a hole that makes her invisible, as well as an easy target for the ambushes, the same ones who defaced the plaque, well hidden and protected.” “That respect for the dead was not exactly the guiding star of anti-fascism – states the Committee – was already known to us. All the intellectual and dialectical turns shatter in the face of the crude reality of history. 80 years later, in fact, the attitude characterized by cowardice, ignorance and poverty of spirit, remains unchanged. The acts of vandalism aimed at the locations named in memory of the Julian-Dalmatian tragedy which is an Italian tragedy are becoming more and more numerous ‘collective surrender in the face of degradation”. “For this reason – concludes the note – our battle acquires an ethical meaning incomprehensible to today’s common sense. We will insist with greater determination, so that the sacredness is restored and nothing remains of these sloppy and vile demonstrations”. (HANDLE).
