Plans to Attack Macron, 3 French Right-wing Extremists Sentenced to 3-4 Years in Prison

French court found three members of a far-right group guilty for plotting to attack the president Emmanuel Macron. The three were arrested in 2018.

Reported ReutersFriday (17/2/2023), the three male members extremists those right were sentenced to from three to four years in prison, with a suspension of one to two years each.

Meanwhile, a fourth man was sentenced to six months in prison for possessing a weapon. The other defendants were acquitted.

In this case, 13 defendants were arrested and have been tried since January 17. They are members of the Facegroup “Les Barjols” which consists of 11 men and two women, aged between 26 and 66 years.

Prosecutors said members of the group planned to attack the president with a knife during a World War One memorial service in eastern France in November 2018.

For information, the arrests of members of the French right wing were carried out in 2018. They were arrested on suspicion of planning to carry out “violent” acts against President Emmanuel Macron.

They were arrested in Moselle and Isere in eastern France, as well as in Ile-et-Vilaine in the north of the country, officials said.

The arrest occurred when Macron is on a visit to the site of a former battlefield during World War I in northern France, to commemorate the centenary of the end of the First World War.
