Plans to allocate 55 million for agroliquidity and primary sector liquidity in 2023

Plans to allocate 55 million to provide liquidity to the primary sector this year

BARCELONA, 6 Mar. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The CEO of the Institut Català de Finances (ICF), Vanessa Servera, explained that the public entity increased its new activity in loans and venture capital by 17% in 2023, up to 641 million euros.

He said this this Wednesday at a press conference to present the balance of last year’s activity and detailed that the increase is due to the boost in loans, which rose 25%, up to 597.2 million.

Venture capital investments, for their part, fell by 35.4%, to 43.8 million, in line with the rest of the financial sector, and Servera explained that this was due to the fact that in 2021 and 2022 there was great activity after the pandemic and in 2023 the pre-Covid data was recovered.

The entity closed the year with a net result of 49.5 million, 83.7% more, due to the impact of the rise in interest rates, and Servera has said that this capital is reinvested.

The ICF loan portfolio closed the year at 2,245 million, 0.7% more, compared to the 4% drop in the financial system as a whole, and the default rate stood at 7.1%, 0.4 points percentages less.

In addition, it carried out 91 restructuring operations worth 63.5 million euros, 45.6% less than in 2022, a year that was still marked by the pandemic.

The CEO highlighted that last year the number of operations multiplied by 3.3, up to 1,657, due to the agroliquidity line, which totaled 1,236 operations and 77 million.

This line allows credits of between 50,000 and 100,000 euros to be offered to farmers with cash flow difficulties and is subsidized at 50% by the Department of Climate Action, Food and Rural Agenda of the Generalitat, which assumes 2% of the interest.

Servera explained that the entity has already delivered 20 million of this line of financing this year and that the forecast is to deliver another 35 million, which could be increased if there is demand and the Government decides.

The ICF also has other lines of credit dedicated to farmers to finance “transformative” projects that allow, for example, reducing water consumption or changing the varieties grown.
