KOMPAS.com – The moon is natural satellite orbiting other celestial bodies such as planets.
In total, there are more than 190 known natural satellites. Of the eight planets in the solar system, six of them have natural satellites while two of them do not.
As for a planet that has no satellites are Mercury and Venus, both of which are the closest planets to the sun.
In addition to these eight planets, there are several dwarf planets, such as Pluto and Eris, which also have natural satellites.
Mercury and Venus have no natural satellites
Mercury is the closest planet to the sun and the smallest planet in the solar system.

Reported from World Atlas, Mercury has no natural satellites for a number of reasons.
Just like Mercury, Venus also has no natural satellites. This planet has an orbital period of about 243 days although the direction of its orbit is not like that of most other planets.
In order to understand why Mercury and Venus do not have natural satellites, it is very important to understand how natural satellites form and why it is impossible for Mercury and Venus to have them.
How do natural satellites form?
After decades of research, experts have determined that there are three ways in which a planet can acquire natural satellites:
1. The first way occurs when there is a disc of material moving around or orbiting the planet in question.

When this happens, the celestial matter eventually coalesces into a larger object, which may become spherical in shape.
This process is widely associated with the formation of moons on the four planets namely Saturn, Jupiter, Neptune, and Uranus.
2. The second method involves natural satellites from other astronomical bodies.
Usually, larger planets are planets that acquire satellites from other bodies through superior gravitational pull.
This process is believed to be related to the formation of Phobos and Deimos, which are natural satellites of Mars.

Several small and irregular moons belonging to Jupiter, Uranus, Saturn, and Neptune were also obtained this way.
3. The third way is a collision between two planets that causes the ejection of material to form a natural satellite.
Earth’s moon is believed to have formed this way.
