Planet Zephyr: Astronomers have discovered a unique new exoplanet

Giant exoplanet discovered orbiting a red dwarf

Astronomers at the Kitt Peak National Observatory have discovered an incredible marshmallow planet. It was given the name TOI-3757b, however, due to its density, which is very similar to marshmallows, it got its name from this dessert. Speaking of which reported in an article in The Astronomical Journal.

An unusual exoplanet was found using the TESS telescope. It is located 580 light years from Earth. The marshmallow revolves around a red dwarf star. The size of this exoplanet is slightly larger than Jupiter, while the mass of the marshmallow is significantly less than that of Jupiter. And its density turned out to be the lowest astronomers have ever been able to detect among gas giants.

To calculate the exoplanet’s mass, the researchers looked for changes in the star’s light that indicate the gravitational pull of the exoplanet on it. Its mass was found to be about 85 Earth masses (while the mass of Jupiter itself is about 317 Earth masses).

The researchers also found that the exoplanet makes a revolution around its star in almost three and a half days. That is, the earth year lasts on the “zephyr” only half a week.

Experts consider Marshmallow to be a very soft exoplanet, so soft that it leads them to wonder how it could have formed so close to its star.

The Telegraph also wrote it NASA crashes satellite on asteroid live. A video of this unusual event was posted on the web.
