Planet Wolf 1069b is Habitable by Humans

Krjogja.com – AMERICA – Astronomical scientists are reported to have discovered a new Earth-like planet named Wolf 1069b outside the solar system (Exoplanet). This planet is 31.2 light years from Earth in the constellation Cygnus. It orbits around a small, red star that is estimated to be one-fifth the size of the Sun. Wolf 1069b is a habitable planet.

This discovery clearly raises the enthusiasm and hopes of researchers to be able to find similar planets that are similar to Earth. Wolf 1069b was discovered by a team of astronomers led by MPIA scientist Diana Kossakowski.

“The absence of visible stellar activity or intense UV radiation increases the likelihood that Wolf 1069b can retain most of its atmosphere. The team is also optimistic that the planet has habitable conditions,” said Diana.

From a distance, Planet Wolf 1069b is an exoplanet located in the constellation Cygnus. It is estimated to be about 31 light years from Earth. According to Diana, this planet has a mass of 1.26 +/- 0.21 of Earth’s mass and a radius of 1.08 Earth radii.

“Wolf 1069b makes it slightly larger than our planet. The surface temperature of Wolf 1069 b is estimated to be 250 +/-7 K (or -23 +/-7°C). This makes it cooler than most other exoplanets discovered so far,” he explained.

While the semi-major axis is 0.0672 +/- 0.0014 au and the orbital period is 15.564 +/- 0.015 days. This figure shows that the planet takes less than 16 days to orbit its parent star once.

Wolf 1069b was discovered by observing the radial velocity of its host star, which allowed scientists to detect the planet’s presence indirectly through its gravitational influence on the star’s motion.
