Models currently used in industry use very simplified crack geometries, with significant safety margins. Thanks to PlaneCracks, it is possible to optimize them in order to refine forecasts and effectively extend the life of components. But we must of course keep the same security requirements, and make the demonstration that the potential for use does not increase at the expense of safety, in particular in the field of aeronautics.
PlaneCracks is positioned as a very competitive complement to industrial software because by focusing on the shape of the crack front, it only claims little computing time. “The great strength of this software is its simplicity since it has very few parameters” confirmed Veronique Lazarus, teacher-researcher at ENSTA Paris and creator of PlaneCracks.
