Plane turns back because co-pilot failed to complete training

Passengers on a Virgin Atlantic flight from London to New York saw their plane turn back 40 minutes after takeoff, reports The Independent. After leaving Heathrow Airport last Monday, the Airbus A-330 turned around because the co-pilot had not completed his training.

To be more precise, the latter had not completed his final evaluation flight, which is required by Virgin Atlantic in order to pilot one of its aircraft.

The plane therefore returned to Heathrow, where passengers had to wait while the company found a new co-pilot.

Finally, the aircraft took off again and finally landed in New York, three hours later than planned.

Following this incident, Virgin Atlantic assured that the two pilots on board during the initial take-off were indeed qualified according to British aviation standards, but not according to those of the company.
