Plane overturns on landing in Mogadishu, all occupants survive crash

A Somali passenger plane crashed this morning on landing at the airport in the capital Mogadishu and ended up inverted next to the runway. All 36 people on board were removed from the plane alive, local authorities said.

The domestic flight of airline Jubba Airways had departed in the morning from the southwestern city of Baidoa, with destination Mogadishu. On landing, around 11:30 a.m. local time, something went wrong and the plane overturned.

Plane crashes next to runway in Somali capital Mogadishu

Footage of the crash shows the plane lying upside down near the wide runway. The accident started a fire in the right wing. The aircraft is a Fokker 50, a model of the Dutch aircraft factory Fokker that went bankrupt in the late 1990s.

The cause of the accident is being investigated. No information has been released about any injuries. Jubba Airways says on Twitter that more information will be released as it becomes available.
