It was American Airlines flight 4817 from Indianapolis to New York. The plane landed at LaGuardia just after 3 p.m. local time after a security incident. Occupants reported suspicious and erratic behavior by a passenger during the flight. The pilot contacted air traffic control and requested that the runway be cleared for an emergency landing.
The passengers exited the aircraft via emergency slides to the runway. After the aircraft was evacuated, firefighters took care of a man lying on the runway.
Officers intervened at the airport. All 78 passengers and the four crew members escaped safely. There were no injuries. The suspected passenger was arrested for questioning.
