A plane crash hit the beach in Santa Monica California, United States of America. One person died in the accident.
Local authorities are currently investigating the fatal accident. who killed one person is investigated by authorities on Friday.
The news agency reports it AFP extensionSaturday (12/24/2022), footage shows Cessna 150 aircraft overturning violently during an emergency landing Thursday (12/22) local time, a few meters from the pier Santa Monica popular and world famous tourist place.
During the crash, beachgoers watched helplessly as the pilot appeared to attempt to land on packed sand by the sea, before the light plane flipped over as it crashed into the waves.
Rescuers then hurried to get the pilot and passengers off the plane.
95-year-old passenger Rex Minter, who was mayor of Santa Monica in the 1960s, has died.
No information has been provided on the condition of the pilot.
Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Ian Gregor said an investigation was underway.
“The driver reported engine problems after the start Santa Monica Airport,” he said.
Eyewitness Josh Feenberg said he and a friend were on the beach when the plane went down.
“My friend saw the plane flying very low,” Feenberg told ABC 7.
“Then we saw it fly up there and we thought it was going to be a smooth landing, but it hit the water and flipped over. It was pretty scary,” she said.
