The tragedy in the countryside of the municipality of Ubaté, in the north of the department of Cundinamarca, in Colombia. Piloting the aircraft, a twin-engine aircraft, was the child’s father, Fabio Grandas Ramírez, a doctor and expert pilot who died together with his wife, the lawyer Mayerly Díaz Rojas, and another woman who was traveling with them. The drama unfolded on Tuesday afternoon local time, the night between Tuesday and Wednesday in Italy, when the plane declared an emergency on board trying an emergency landing that failed.
The small aircraft had taken off from Santa Marta and was supposed to land at Guaymaral airport, about seventy kilometers from the crash site. When the first responders arrived on the scene they believed that there was nothing more to be done for the occupants of the plane given the crash and the conditions of the vehicle. Authorities have indicated that investigations will begin. “The civil aviation accident investigation personnel are already on duty, carrying out the procedure established by the International Civil Aviation Organization to clarify the causes of the accident,” explained the Colombian aviation authority.
