Plane Crash in Nepal, 40 People Killed

It was reported that 40 people died from the Yeti Airlines plane that crashed in Nepal. The plane was previously reported to have been carrying 72 people.

Reported Reuters, Sunday (15/1/2023), at least 40 people died according to the Nepalese aviation authority. Currently the evacuation is still ongoing.

“Rescue operations are still ongoing. The weather is reported to be clear,” said a spokesman for Nepal’s civil aviation authority, Jagannath Niroula.

Previously it was reported that a plane belonging to Yeti Airlines carrying 72 people had crashed in Nepal. Rescue teams were already on the scene and found the fuselage engulfed in flames.

Yeti Airlines spokesman Sudarshan Bartaula earlier said there were 72 people on the plane. The number of people consisted of 68 passengers and 4 cabin crew.

Local authority Gurudutta Dhakal said rescue teams were working to put out the flames on the fuselage. The wreckage of the plane was reportedly engulfed in flames.

“They have arrived there and are putting out the fire. Now everyone is focused on putting out the fire and saving the passengers,” said Dhakal.

The plane had been due to fly from Kathmandu to Pokhara. The plane was carrying 68 passengers and 4 crew. Photos and videos circulating on social media show puffs of smoke from the point where the plane crashed. The rescue team previously headed to the location by helicopter.
