Plain language: The UN General Assembly in New York

The UN General Assembly will begin today (September 24) in New York. 150 heads of state and government are participating. There is a focus on the subjects of Israel, Ukraine and Africa. Among those expected are US President Joe Biden, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyj.

UN is the abbreviation for “United Nations”. In German the group is called “The United Nations”. The “UN” is often used for short. 193 countries belong to the UN. The UN headquarters is in New York.

Foreign Minister Alexander Schallenberg is on site for Austria. He will give a speech on Thursday (September 26).
