The rats in New York City are an “institution,” said Mayor Bill de Blasio on Tuesday. “But one that we would like to get rid of.” In order to improve the health and quality of life of New Yorkers, exterminators are in all five boroughs, reported the mayor.
The health department now has a budget of $ 2.9 million to take action against the pesky rodents. With nine new employees, 50 rat hunters are now in action, and the New Yorkers can now even conveniently alert them via smartphone app.
According to the city administration, the new app is also the reason for the increase in complaints. In the past year, 20,000 complaints about rats had been recorded by mid-October.
