Place des Reignaux pedestrianized to “appease the sector”

A temporary development, which will give rise to a final project, according to the town hall.

A crossroads dedicated to pedestrians. Development work is currently being carried out to make Place des Reignaux a new pedestrian square in Lille. A provisional development “which will then give rise to a final project”, says the municipality.

“This development consists from today in the pedestrianization of the square between the streets of the Ponts de Comines and the rue du Priez”, announces the City.

A layout that will host terraces and other festive events once the work is completed.

“Give it new uses”

The municipality of Lille wanted to “lead a reflection to appease the sector of the Place des Reignaux and give it new uses”. Consultation and workshops were held with councillors, residents and traders to carry out the project. Traders who denounced, in 2020, the insecurity of the places.

Place des Reignaux, located a stone’s throw from the Lille-Flandres train station, suffers from a somewhat special reputation. It is known for drug trafficking, recurrent violence… A climate of insecurity that has pushed traders to create a trade union to alert the public authorities.
