As expected, With Liverpool in the lead the match started, and in the 6th minute the visitors almost took the lead, but Virgil van Dijk’s header was still able to be headed by Jefferson Lerma near the goal line. Bournemouth’s first chance came out of nowhere, and it was also a good one, but Dango Ouattara made a poor decision when he tried to push the ball past Alisson.

A few minutes later, Andrew Robertson took aim at the home team’s goal, but Neto saved, and in the same minute, Cody Gakpo found the net, but from an offside.

AFC Bournemouth mainly wanted to threaten from counterattacks, and it was certainly in the air that they would score. In the 28th minute it happened, Philip Billing shot the ball in from close range. Van Dijk stopped before the pass, but Trent Alexander-Arnold’s defense/positioning is also worth a miss (1–0).

At the start of the half, the home team could have led by as many as two, but Dominic Solanke did not hit the goal, and the referee did not give a penalty after Billing’s fall. If there was a foul, it certainly happened outside the penalty area.

Jürgen Klopp made a change during the break, sending Diogo Jota forward as well, who didn’t wait long with his first promising shot, and Neto threw himself to save it.

In the middle of the second half, Liverpool received a penalty, the ball hit the home side after Jota’s close header. The referee reviewed the incident at the VAR’s signal and then pointed to the penalty spot. Behind the ball Mohamed Salah stood, but shot badly beside him. Even the Egyptian star laughed at this in his agony.

By the way, this was Salah’s first penalty kick in his Premier League career that did not hit the goal.

Liverpool did not manage to equalize later, so there was a bomb surprise in the first match of the round.

It is interesting that the Klopps immediately won 9-0 against AFC Bournemouth after their defeat at the hands of Manchester United in the autumn season, and now Man. They lost to the relegation candidates after a 7–0 triumph over United.
