The Central Sharia Council of PKS apologizes for causing a public commotion because of Tazkirah Number 12 concerning Solidarity Affected by the Pandemic, one of the points of which is the recommendation polygamous for male PKS members who are able and ready to have more than one wife. The PKS Sharia Board has withdrawn the recommendation.
“We apologize if this recommendation has caused a public commotion and hurt the hearts of some Indonesian people,” said PKS Sharia Board Chairman Surahman Hidayat in a statement, Thursday (30/9/2021).
Surahman explained that PKS is very open to receiving input from various parties. PKS is also grateful for criticism from the public regarding the program and recommendations made by PKS.
“PKS expresses its gratitude for input, criticism, and suggestions from all parties; and this is a form of great attention from the public towards the running of this party organization,” he said.
Surahman explained that PKS currently wants to focus on handling the pandemic. Surahman emphasized that PKS continues to succeed in its pandemic handling program by distributing 1.7 million food packages for people who are experiencing economic difficulties.
“It’s time for us to intervene with programs that are really needed by the community,” he said.
Due to PKS’ explanation and focus in handling the pandemic, the PKS Sharia Board finally revoked the pandemic recommendation for PKS male cadres.
“After we received various inputs from the board, members and the general public, we decided to withdraw the polygamy recommendation,” he added.
PKS previously made a three-party solidarity program. The program is a suggestion for cadres who can afford polygamy with widows.
