PKS refuses to help Anies find momentum for the 2024 presidential election

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia

The Central Executive Board (DPP) of the Prosperous Justice Party (PKB)VFD) stated that it has no plans to help Anies Baswedan looking for momentum for the Presidential Election (presidential election) 2024 after stepping down from the seat of the Governor of DKI Jakarta in 2022.

PKS DPP chairman Mardani Ali Sera reasoned that Anies was a special figure who was believed to have his own momentum.

“My view is Mas Anies, it will have its own momentum. You don’t need to make it. Because his capacity is special, right,” said Mardani to CNNIndonesia.com, Friday (22/10).

PKS is known to be one of the parties supporting Anies-Sandi in the 2017 DKI Jakarta Pilkada with Gerindra. Both are supported by three other parties, namely PAN, Perindo, and Idaman.

Passing in the first round, Anies-Sandi outperformed the Ahok-Djarot pair in the second round. Anies-Sandi won by pocketing 57.92 percent of the votes or a difference of almost 15 percent of the votes from Ahok-Djarot with 42.08 percent of the KPU’s real count version.

Although he is considered to have played a role in bringing Anies to the DKI 1 seat, Mardani said his party did not want to be arrogant. He said that the sacrifice for PKS was a common thing. He called his party not a power hunter.

“So, at a certain point, it’s normal to make sacrifices. In the past, the DKI regional election was like that. What is clear is that PKS is not the type of power hunter. He is a hunter for benefits for the people,” he said.

Intending to no longer help Anies, Mardani said his party will now focus on preparing the Chairman of the PKS Syuro Council, Salim Segaf Al-jufri for 2024. According to him, the decision to prepare Salim Segaf in 2024 has been the decision of the Shura Council.

On the other hand, Mardani advised Anies to focus on completing his tenure in DKI. He reminded Anies not to respond too much to the support and declarations made by the volunteers. Not refusing, said Mardani, but he wanted Anies to focus on his final year leading DKI.

“Don’t overreact to these declarations. It doesn’t mean you refuse. That’s the right of volunteers. Mas Anies just focus on taking care of Jakarta,” he said.
