PKS Proudly Supports Anies Baswedan for 2024 Presidential Candidacy: Mardani Ali Sera

Jakarta

Deputy General Chairperson (Waketum) Gerindra Fadli Zone brought up the issue of Anies Baswedan’s candidacy when running for the 2017 DKI Jakarta Pilkada. PKS DPP Chairman Mardani Ali Sera did not deny that support for Anies was rewarded with victory.

“It’s true that Pak Prabowo and Gerindra plus PKS are of course the ones who supported Mas Anies in the DKI regional elections. And that support has been brilliantly reciprocated by Mas Anies’ achievements while leading Jakarta,” said Mardani when contacted, Tuesday (19/12/2023).

PKS feels proud of what Anies did while he was Governor of DKI Jakarta. Because of this, PKS supports Anies running as a Presidential Candidate (Capres) who is now paired with Muhaimin Iskandar (Cak Imin).

“We, PKS, are proud of Mas Anies’ achievements in DKI. That’s why we continue to support Mas Anies to run for the 2024 presidential election,” he said.

Apart from that, the Chair of the Anies-Sandi Team during the DKI Regional Election also defended Anies regarding the opposition statement. According to him, opposition is important for democracy.

“Mas Anies’ words about the opposition are true. That the existence of the opposition makes democracy healthy. And because of that, PKS remains steadfast in carrying out the opposition’s mission. Especially in the current era where the law seems to be controlled by power,” he said.

Then, regarding Anies’ statement that said it was difficult for Prabowo to do business, Mardani said that Anies was only quoting a statement from Ketum Gerindra, who is also presidential candidate number 2.

“Mas Anies’ quote about Pak Prabowo having trouble doing business only quoted Pak Prabowo. He didn’t attack Pak Prabowo. He just said that power is not for doing business. But fighting to serve the people,” he said.

Fadli brings up Anies’ candidacy in DKI

Previously, Fadli Zon said that presidential candidate number 2 Prabowo Subianto had never brought down anyone for his own interests, including during the first presidential debate. Fadli Zon then touched on the story of the Gerindra Party nominating Anies Baswedan to run for the 2017 DKI gubernatorial election.

Fadli said that in the first debate, Prabowo did not emphasize his selfishness. Fadli criticized those who said that Prabowo could not stand being in opposition.

“If someone says they can’t stand being in opposition, try building a party or joining a political party. Political struggles are often not easy, they are not black and white. There are times when you have to take a step back, to take a thousand steps forward. There are times when the tortuous struggle is long to achieve the goal, ” said Fadli in his statement, Tuesday (19/12/2023).

“For the sake of national unity, Prabowo joined Joko Widodo’s government in the spirit of national reconciliation. If someone says they can’t stand opposition, try building a party or joining a political party. Political struggles are often not easy, not black and white. There are times when you have to take a step back, to “Go forward a thousand steps. There are times when it’s a long winding struggle to achieve your goal,” he continued.

He said Prabowo was the only figure who embraced other people for the benefit of more people. Fadli told the story of when Prabowo supported and financed Anies Baswedan for the 2017 DKI Jakarta gubernatorial election.

“In the 2014 presidential election, for example, Anies Baswedan often insinuated and attacked Prabowo. However, Prabowo never took these attacks to heart. Evidently, to stop Basuki Tjahaja Purnama’s leadership in DKI Jakarta, Prabowo launched and financed Anies to become governor. ” said Fadli.
