PKP’s Memorial Cup Win and Its Potential Link to the Return of the Nordiques in the NHL

Just about everyone in Quebec hopes the Nordiques will one day return to the NHL. After all, in Quebec, it would make a hockey team that could compete with the Canadiens. And in Montreal? It would create a good rivalry.

There are people at the CH who should not hope for the return of hockey on the other side of the 20, but that’s all.

That said, sometimes, there are links that are made and that do not have to be. For example, we should not see a link between the fact that Pierre-Karl Péladeau lifted the Memorial Cup and the fact that hockey in Quebec could return to the NHL via this same PKP.

But yet, that’s what Jérôme Landry did earlier this week. On his radio show with Jonathan Trudeauhe drew connections between bigger projects and seeing PKP lift the Canadian title trophy.

We know that the subject of the Nordiques has been brought to the fore in recent weeks because of what was happening with the Coyotes and the large crowds in Quebec, but we have always known that the NHL does not want to to send a club to Quebec.

That said, seeing PKP with the Memorial Cup at arm’s length seems to have made the radio host say it was more than just a trivial gesture.

I think he practices and he wants to show that he is a good professional team owner as well.

And when I saw him with the Memorial Cup, lifting the Cup, I said to myself OK, he also wants to show that he is a good owner and that he is able to win on the field. – Jerome Landry

According to the host, the fact of having bought the Alouettes and the fact of being seen in the entourage of the Remparts is not a coincidence. Why wasn’t he seen more often before (he’s had the club since 2014) around the club?

The host therefore finds that it is “far from being trivial” to see PKP show up with the Memorial Cup, as if he wanted to show off.

Can winning in Quebec in this way help him restore his image as a potential owner for the NHL? This is the question that was indirectly asked by the host, who believes that Péladeau is still interested in the idea of bringing a franchise to Quebec.

If so, it will take more than that.

But in my opinion, there is no connection between seeing him lift the Memorial Cup and the rest. There are links between the purchase of the Alouettes and the way he manages the Remparts, but not with the fact of seeing him lift the trophy.

After all, a guy has the right to celebrate his trophy just for the sake of celebrating, right?

A lot of

– Normal.

– What will the Sharks do?

– The big file in Toronto.

– What do you think?
