PKN ORLEN’s statement to untrue information from the newsweek.pl portal
We have repeatedly denied media reports about the connections between Adam Hofman and Robert Pietryszyn and PKN ORLEN, as well as their participation in negotiations with the MOL Group. We definitely denied such reports also by the newsweek.pl editorial office. Nevertheless, it did not take our position into account in its publication. We treat the ignoring of PKN ORLEN’s statement, which did not fit in with the thesis of the text “How Hofman fooled Kaczyński” published on 30.01.2022 on the www.newsweek.pl portal, as intentional. First of all, we deny that any process of “Orlen’s merger with Hungarian MOL” is underway. Such a project is not implemented, and any suggestions of this type are detrimental to the image of the Company.
So once again we strongly emphasize that neither Adam Hofman nor Robert Pietryszyn are in any way connected with the activities of PKN ORLEN.
We assure you that most of the negotiations with the MOL Group were conducted mainly by the PKN ORLEN team from the very beginning. Reputable, internationally recognized financial and legal advisory companies were engaged in the process of merging and negotiating agreements with partners. Public relations agencies are not normally employed to conduct this type of transaction.
As we have informed the media many times, we have never cooperated or collaborated in any area with Adam Hofman and Robert Pietryszyn, or with companies or persons associated with them. The concern has not used and is not using their services. This also applies to the President of PKN ORLEN, Daniel Obajtek, and the entire management board of the Company.
Therefore, we would like to emphasize once again that any statements linking the persons of Adam Hofman and Robert Pietryszyn with the activities of PKN ORLEN are unauthorized.
It is not true that Adam Hofman has an influence on business decisions made at PKN ORLEN. We strongly deny any claims that he was involved in any acquisition processes carried out by the Concern. The acquisitions carried out by PKN ORLEN also have nothing to do with the construction of chebol, such statements of the newsweek.pl editorial staff are not authorized and deliberately hit the image of the Company. Building a multi-energy concern is a business process included in the ORLEN2030 strategy. Its purpose is solely to provide benefits to all involved entities, as well as Shareholders and Customers. Only in this way will the energy transformation be successfully carried out in Poland.
It is not true that the CEO, Daniel Obajtek, about his plans to take over other companies, incl. PGE, informs in interviews. Never in any interview did President Obajtek announce the acquisition of Polska Grupa Energetyczna. The process of building a multi-energy concern takes place in cooperation and with the support of the Polish government.
It is not true that the admission of MOL to the Polish market “may be the introduction of the Trojan Horse to the country.” We would like to point out that, according to the data of the Polish Organization of Oil Industry and Trade, about 7.8 thousand people currently operate on the domestic market. gas stations. As part of the transaction, MOL will achieve a market share of approximately 5%, and from this perspective, it is unjustified to make theses about a threat to the energy security of the country and the position of the Concern. At the same time, we emphasize that MOL is a concern present on the retail fuel sales market in several EU countries, e.g. in the Czech Republic, where it competes with PKN ORLEN. There, MOL’s activity in this segment does not raise any controversies. In addition, MOL is also a public company, including one listed on the Warsaw Stock Exchange, which ensures transparency and financial credibility.
It is not true that MOL will sell Russian fuel at the stations acquired from Grupa LOTOS. The fuel supplier for the stations in Poland purchased by MOL will be PKN ORLEN.
The takeover of Grupa LOTOS by PKN ORLEN is a purely market transaction, carried out on terms favorable to the Polish side. Any attempts to link the process with politics are groundless and harmful to all people who have been involved in the talks for many months. We treat the ignoring of the position of PKN ORLEN by the editors of newsweek.pl as an attempt to undermine the good name of the company and its Management Board at a time when key processes for the Polish economy and the fuel and energy industry are underway.
Due to the fact that false information on the newsweek.pl portal strikes the good name of PKN ORLEN and damages the image of the Company, firm legal steps will be taken.
