PKB criticize the proposal Fatwa Commission of the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) related to the presidential term of 1 term with a duration of 7-8 years. According to PKB, MUI has spoken outside its domain.
“MUI is getting more and more strange,” said Deputy Chairman of Commission II of the DPR RI from the PKB faction Yaqut Cholil Qoumas to reporters, Monday (19/10/2020).
Yaqut also asked MUI to speak according to their duties and functions. The Head of the PKB DPP Defense and Security Division advised MUI to focus on thinking of ways to do so Islam not used as a political commodity.
“Instead of talking outside its domain, MUI should think about how Islam as a religion should not be used as a political commodity. (It is better for MUI to think about how) to limit provocative lectures and so on,” said Yaqut.
Furthermore, Yaqut said that PKB had not yet thought of proposing a change in the presidential term. PKB, according to the politician who is often called Gus Yaqut, assesses that a presidential term of 5 years with a maximum of two terms is still ideal to be implemented in the country.
“PKB still has not thought about changing the term of office of the president. PKB considers 5 years and a maximum of 2 terms at this time is still the most ideal, limiting the president to behave as totalitarian, while giving sufficient time to realize his vision and mission,” said Yaqut.
Previously reported, the MUI Fatwa Commission proposed a draft discussion of the presidential term only once at the 2020 MUI National Conference. In that period, the elected president will lead for seven or eight years.
