PJ reform “huge deception to the citizens”: PAN deputy

The draft reform of the Federal Judicial Branch (PJF) “is a huge deception to the citizens” because they will not elect their judges because the candidates will come from proposals made by the Executive and Legislative branches “with an evident partisan bias,” said the federal deputy of the PAN, Héctor Saúl Téllez.

In a statement, the PAN member warned on Sunday that if Morena and its allies manage to obtain a qualified majority in the Senate to approve the proposal – needing a vote from the opposition – they will offer citizens the choice between “poisoned apples and oranges.”

He argued that the draft reform of the Judicial Branch proposes a mechanism for the election of judges so that the Executive Branch continues to maintain the power to send proposals for ministers and judges, and now the Legislative Branch will also be able to propose lists of three candidates that will surely include names from the new political oligarchy of this country.

“In reality, the list of candidates will be selected by Morena and the government. There will be the names of those recommended by the high-ranking families of this party that today hold the new oligarchy in our country, such as the Taddeis, the Alcalde Luján, the Batres, the Monreals, the López and many more who are the true beneficiaries of this reform,” he denounced.

With this, he said that the reform promoted by President Andrés Manuel López Obrador and President-elect Claudia Sheinbaum is a trap for citizens and a distraction from apparent democracy with the issue of popular election, since the proposals will come from the government and the new political oligarchy of Morena.

“It is about co-opting the Judiciary to benefit their interests and in some way have control of the Executive Branch, the Legislative Branch and now the Judiciary, the only one that has remained intact, with autonomy and impartiality, it is an assault on this power,” he said.

He also criticized the extension of the Federal Judicial Council (CJF) proposed by the reform and the creation of the Disciplinary Court, which he said has “inquisitorial powers so that, in the event that any of the elected judges deviate or want to act independently and autonomously, this Court will be there to show them the line they must follow; otherwise they will be dismissed or impeached and could even end up in jail.”

“That is the last link, the Disciplinary Court to align all the judges who for some reason may leak and get into some position that grants them popular election as a judge, that is, this whole perverse mechanism is designed to control the Judicial Power, this is nothing more than the partisanization of justice, with this impartiality and autonomy are lost,” he concluded.
