During the corona pandemic, Italian-born Gabriele Lamonaca began making pizza at home and then exchanging it for other things, such as chocolate cake or wine bottles, via connections established through social media.
In the meantime, Lamonaca has opened his own pizzeria in Manhattan, where he also sells his creations – but he still accepts barter offers. “We have only just exchanged a pizza for a homemade macaron,” says Lamonaca. “And that on this woman’s birthday too, it was really nice,” he adds, looking at the macaron baker.
