――First of all, introduce yourself. What’s your favorite game?
AirdorfHi, this is Airdorf doing this job and various horror pixels. I’ve been developing games since I was 11. The first game I played was The Legend of Zelda: Dreaming Island, and it’s been my favorite game ever since. I also like STALKER, Dark Souls III and Hunt: Showdown.
――Why did you start developing this game?
AirdorfI’ve always liked horror games, but it wasn’t until around 2011 that I started wanting to make my own.Markiplierever since i started seeing them play games like slenderman. When the teaser for Silent Hill PT came out, I knew I wanted to make a first-person game with such cutting-edge graphics. But I’m not a graphics programmer, so I decided to take on the design challenge of making a scary horror game with old-fashioned graphics like the Atari 2600, ZX Spectrum, and Apple II.
――Tell us about the characteristics of this job.
AirdorfIn addition to the traditional graphic style, I put a lot of effort into the audio. Especially the character’s voiceover. I also composed more than 20 songs by myself in 8bit style. I think gamers will also like the sound design of this game. Also, for this footage, I used a rotoscopic animation style. It can be very scary and creepy. I don’t think there is any other game like it.
――What kind of person would you like to play in this job?
AirdorfIf you like indie horror, you will enjoy this work. Especially if you are looking for a classic gaming experience with a twist, you will enjoy it even more. I always advertise to YouTubers and Twitch streamers. By making them play and react to my game, it will also be a promotion!
――Are there any works that influenced this work?
AirdorfThe films that influenced this work are “The Exorcist (1 and 3)”, “The Last Exorcism”, “The Light -The Truth of the Exorcist-“, “Paranormal Activity 3”, “Clash!”, “Neon Demon ” etc. In terms of games, they are “Zero Akai Chou”, “Silent Hill (1-4)”, “Shadow Man”, “PT”, etc.
――Do you plan to support Japanese for this game? Is voluntary translation possible?
AirdorfLocalization is planned but not a top priority right now. Volunteer translators are welcome as long as they don’t cost money.
――Did the novel coronavirus affect development?
AirdorfDuring the lockdown, I didn’t go to the office for my day job, so I had more time to focus on this project. It made me do a lot of work. We work remotely with publishers, so the novel coronavirus hasn’t negatively impacted development.
――Is it okay to distribute and monetize this work?
AirdorfYes, please distribute this work, upload videos and monetize it! I could come to the distribution too. (You smile)
――Finally, please give a message to the Japanese readers.
AirdorfThank you for your interest in this job! It has taken ages and I am so excited to finally bring it to you. I would be happy if I could play this work, enjoy and be scared. And don’t forget. “Gary Ha Anatawo Ishimasu”.
–A thousand thanks.
