Pivotal index exceeded again in September and January, the Planning Bureau expects

The Planning Bureau also raises its expectations for annual inflation. It now assumes 8.1 percent inflation in 2022, up from 7.8 percent in the previous forecast. In 2023 inflation is expected to be 3.5 percent. That is still considerably more than the inflation figures in 2021 (2.44 percent) and in 2020 (0.74 percent). In 2023, the pivotal index would normally only be exceeded in January, the Planning Bureau expects.

Not only the salaries of civil servants are adjusted to the increased lifespan. High inflation also causes wages to rise in the private sector. This happens at a different pace in every sector. For some sectors this happens monthly, for others once a year.
