La Liga has released the latest salary caps for teams in Spain’s first and second tiers, and Barcelona is in the spotlight after being the only team with a minus salary cap.
The question of the salary limit has indeed been a big theme for Barca throughout this season, especially since they have been very busy in the last two transfer windows.

In this season Blaugrana has brought in several players such as Sergio Aguero, Memphis Depay, Eric Garcia, Dani Alves, Ferran Torres, Luuk de Jong, Adama Traore to Pierre Emerick Aubameyang, with the first name finally forced to retire due to heart problems.
While there were some players they signed for free and some were on loan, they initially had to cut the salaries of existing players in order to register them in the competition – including loaning Philippe Coutinho to Aston Villa.

Barca’s salary cap last summer had actually fallen to €97 million, but now it’s worth minus €144 million, following the number of players they signed in the winter transfer window.
LaLiga general director Javier Gomez revealed that Barca’s minus salary cap will affect them in purchasing players later.
However, Blaugrana can still buy a player with one condition, namely that they get an amount of income with the money they spend to buy players.
