Bryan Reynolds hit a pair of home runs, Jason Delay added another and the Pittsburgh Pirates beat the Boston Red Sox 7-6 on Monday night.
On a temperate night when the teams combined for six home runs, Masataka Yoshida hit his first since joining the Red Sox from Japan. Yoshida and Triston Casas hit two-run shots and Rafael Devers added a solo shot.
Reynolds reached four multi-homer games, his first since Aug. 12 at home against Boston. Pirates starters Johan Oviedo and Boston starter Kutter Crawford had short nights.
Ovideo allowed five runs, four earned, and six hits in four and two-thirds innings. Half of the hits against him were home runs. Crawford (0-1) needed 32 pitches to get out of the first inning and pitched four innings. He allowed seven runs on eight hits, including three home runs.
Duane Underwood Jr. (1-0) pitched 1 1/3 innings for his first win of the season. David Bednar came on in the ninth, allowed a single, but earned his second save.
For the Pirates, the Dominican Oneil Cruz 5-1.
For the Red Sox, the Dominican Rafael Devers 4-1 with one scored and one produced.
