Pittsburgh Penguins Acquire Plašek from Vancouver: Career Stats and Background Information

Pittsburgh acquired Plašek on Tuesday along with defenseman Jack Rathbone from Vancouver for running back Mark Friedman and forward Tye Glover. This season, the last year of a three-year rookie contract with an NHL income of $875,000 entered into force for the Czech player, of which he has already received $75,000 as a signing bonus. On the farm, his salary was to drop to $75,000.

Plášek has not yet had an opportunity in the NHL. Three weeks ago, during Vancouver’s training camp, he went to the farm in Abbotsford, but was not included in the lineup at the start of the AHL season. He worked in the AHL in the 2021/22 season, when due to an injury he managed only eight games and did not score.

After hip surgery, he did not start the last season in Olomouc until November 22. He played 38 games for Hanáky, including the playoffs, and collected 20 points for seven goals and 13 assists. In total, the former Komety Brno player has 162 games and 43 points (19+24) in the extra league.

Vancouver drafted Plašek in the 6th round in 2019 at 175th place. The son of the former striker of Pardubice, Znojmo, Vítkovice and Pilsen, Karel Plášek, started once at the Under-18 World Championship and twice at the Under-20 Championship. The year before last April, he made his debut in the national team and scored in his only game so far in the Euro Hockey Challenge win over Austria 7:2.
