Manchester City failed to lock the Premier League title after collapsing at hand Chelsea 1-2. Raheem Sterling really annoyed because the referee did not award a penalty.
Playing at the Etihad Stadium, Saturday (8/5/2021) evening WIB, Sterling opened the Citizens’ lead at the end of the first half. After the restart, Chelsea equalized through Hakim Ziyech’s goal.
In the 88th minute, Sterling, who was in possession of the ball in the penalty box, fell down because of Kurt Zouma’s shadow. But the referee rejected City’s penalty claim. The match footage shows the Chelsea defender’s contact with Sterling’s body.
Shit got no penalty, Manchester City actually conceded in injury time. Marcos Alonso’s strike beat Ederson’s guard to ensure the Blues came home on full points.
City are now collecting 80 points from 35 matches, 13 points adrift of Manchester United who still play 33 games. Even though they lost, the Sky Blue could still secure their title this weekend if MU failed to win at Aston Villa’s headquarters tonight (9/5).
After the match against Chelsea, Sterling questioned the referee’s decision. “I thought I couldn’t shoot because he hit his knee in the hamstring behind me,” he was quoted saying Mirror.
“I don’t know how it wasn’t a penalty. I don’t know how it wasn’t reviewed properly. The referee said the incident was reviewed, but in the end, I think personally, I know it’s a penalty.”
“I thought VAR was there to help, but apparently not. He said the incident was examined, and confirmed it was not a penalty. But for me, it is certainly a penalty,” grumbled. Sterling after defeat Manchester City.
