Pirucha, remembered | The singer Amneris Perusin Favero will be honored at the Teatro Argentino

The Cultural Institute celebrates the career of one of the most prominent voices of national poetry, a historical figure of the Argentine Theater and emblem of the Mothers of Plaza de Mayo, who faced the disappearance of her son, Daniel Favero Perusin, at the hands of the last dictatorship civil-military.

Through the Memory is Culture Program, tribute will be paid to the singer Amneris Perusin Favero, popularly known as “Pirucha”. The event “Resonating in the lyrics of memory” will take place next Tuesday at 6:00 p.m., in the Astor Piazzolla Room of the Teatro Argentino Provincial Arts Center.

In 1977, the same year in which a fire destroyed a large part of the Argentine Theater, “Pirucha” faced the disappearance of his son, Daniel Favero Perusin, at the hands of the last civil-military dictatorship. Since then, she dedicated her life to searching for her son and joined the collective struggle of the Mothers of Plaza de Mayo.

In the tribute, the singer Ximena Ibarrolaza and the pianist Lucía Zapata will perform some of the most significant operas in the career of Amneris Perusin Favero, highlighting his time in works such as La Traviata, Otello and Madame Butterfly. In addition, a short documentary film about the life and work of this emblematic figure, produced by the Memory is Culture Program, will be screened. As a complement to this celebration, in the hall’s foyer, original costumes that “Pirucha” used in his performances, hand-held programs from the time and unpublished photos that illustrate his career will be displayed.

This concert not only seeks to celebrate his immense artistic legacy, but also to remember his courage and commitment in the defense of human rights, becoming a symbol of memory, truth and justice. Admission will be free.
