Pires Andrade explains why there may be earlier results in these Benfica – Benfica elections

MAG president hopes to have “nomination” around midnight

António Pires Andrade, chairman of the General Assembly, reacted to the record number of voters in Benfica’s elections (number has already surpassed 39 thousand), in statements to journalists.

“This shows that Benfica members are willing to participate in the club’s life, it is with their vote that they contribute to the decision of the governing bodies. I believe that by midnight we will have a more or less clear indication about the end result,” he began by saying, adding: “It’s a positive result. It’s good that the members have participated in the club’s life in this way. A record last year and now another after the problems at the club.” The MAG leader also explained why he hopes to have results earlier this year, after Luís Filipe Vieira was re-elected in 2020 after 2:00 am: “Last year we had the polls open until two in the morning in some houses near Lisbon and here in Luz closed at 00:30. It is very likely that this year could be earlier, as we will have several counting locations, it is true that it is a physical vote but we will start counting much sooner.”

Confronted with the statements of Vieira, who confessed to having voted for Rui Costa – something that prompted a reaction from Francisco Benitez’s list, saying that the former president violated the statutes -, Pires de Andrade sent explanations for another time: “I didn’t hear, I wasn’t here, I had lunch, I’m not commenting. Is it an irregularity? I don’t know, let’s analyze it, no complaint was filed at MAG, so I can’t pronounce- me.”
