Pirate taxi driver sentenced for rape of passenger
A pirate taxi driver in Bergen has been sentenced to prison for one year and eight months for raping a young woman he drove home from the city in July 2021.
Hordaland district court has also sentenced him to pay NOK 100,000 in compensation to the woman, who suffered psychologically after the assault.
The man is a Syrian citizen in his late 20s.
According to the verdict, he followed the woman into her flat in Øygarden without being asked, held her against her will and raped her.
The woman has explained that she first took care of physical evidence, but threw it away because she did not dare report the man who knew where she lived.
Later that year, she read in “driving groups” on social media that a woman warned against this driver. Then he reported it to the police.
Several women have testified that he has made sexual advances towards other pirate taxi customers.
The court does not believe the man’s explanation that the woman invited him in but that he left when she rejected sexual contact.
He has also been convicted of illegal taxi driving in the period January-November 2021.
Vestnytt mentioned the case first.
