With the slogan “Freedom in Palestine!” NATO is a murderer, the murderer knows it”, under the banner of the ENEDEP union, COSCO dock workers prevented the loading of a container with ammunition destined for Israel on Thursday night.
The ship that would enter the port of Piraeus to load the container is destined for the Israeli port of Haifa. The container load arrived in Greece from North Macedonia.
The mobilization was attended by the Labor Center of Piraeus, the Metal Union of Attica and the Shipbuilding Industry of Greece, the Union of Shipwrights, workers, youth and organizations of Piraeus, while the dominant slogan was “Your dock workers sign it, with the people’s blood on their hands they don’t paint”.
“Murderers, way from the port” COSCO port workers wrote on the container.
“Today we are putting into practice what we decided on Wednesday at the general meeting of the ENEDEP Association. Let’s not allow war material to be transported from the port of Piraeus to continue the genocide of the Palestinian people,” said Markos Bekris, president of the ENEDEP Union and the Piraeus Labor Center, informing the COSCO port workers on the evening shift that their colleagues would not allow the container to be loaded.
“It is the moment to shout that we will not allow the port of Piraeus to become a base of war. We demand here and now that all our country’s involvement in wars stop. Disengagement from imperialist designs and their rivalries, which make our country and the port of Piraeus a target of retaliation”, notes the ENEDEP union and adds:
“In the port where every day we fight with our union for health and safety measures, their warmongering plans do not fit. In the port where every day we fight for better living and working conditions for us and our children, there is no place for the people’s murderers.
It may be that the hands of all governments to date are deeply soaked in the blood of thousands of people with our country’s tolerance and participation in the NATO and EU wolf alliance, but we have learned to keep them clean and extend them to anyone in need.
With our fists raised we fight for the peace of the peoples, for the peoples to live in brotherhood. No participation of Greece in the war!”.
“From your struggles, your support and your solidarity we draw strength and courage, until victory” said Mohammed Iqnaibi, head of the International Relations Department of the General Union of Palestinian Workers and expressed his thanks to the COSCO dockers.
Mohammed Iknaibi, speaking to the gathered workers at the port of Piraeus, “conveyed fighting greetings from the trade unionists and workers of Palestine, who have been fighting against the occupation for 75 years.” After glorifying “the crimes of the murderous Israeli state and the support provided to it by its other imperialist allies”, he underlined that the Palestinian people have placed their hopes only in the peoples, “only in you and your struggles”.
