After Shakira’s numerous interviews, songs and social media posts about the breakup with Gerard Pique, now is the time for the footballer to share his perspective.
The 36-year-old former Barcelona player has spoken out for the first time since his relationship with the Colombian singer went in different directions. He gave an interview to El Pais, where he stood up to critics who accused him of leaving his entire family for a younger woman. Pique was adamant that despite his split with Shakira, their children Sasha and Milan remain his top priority and most important focus.
Pique said that every parent has only one duty and that is to do things that are in the best interest of their children.
“It’s a matter of protecting them. This is the job of all parents. That’s what I’m focused on and that’s my role as a father,” he told El Pais.
Gerard and Shakira announced their separation in June last year after more than a decade of dating. The two met while filming the video for the song Waka Waka before the FIFA World Cup in South Africa. They announced their relationship in March 2011, and their love was supplemented by two sons – 8-year-old Sasha and 10-year-old Milan.
