Pipeline rupture leaves at least 350 homes without water service in Manhattan – Telemundo New York (47)

NEW YORK – A Manhattan pipeline rupture on Saturday morning left at least 350 homes and 17 businesses without potable water service, according to the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP).

The incident happened around 8:00 am on Saturday, at the corner of 75th Street and Second Avenue on the Upper East Side, which forced police to shut down vehicular traffic in the area.

Due to the low temperatures firefighters and specialists have found it difficult to repair the problem of a 12-inch main pipe after the water service was stopped to avoid creating more floods.

DEP reported that there is no contamination in the water that reaches the rest of the neighborhood and that it is safe to consume. According to the report, there were no evacuations after the incident.

The cause of the incident is unknown.
